Slow down, you crazy child…

I’m talking to you.

You, Superman or Superwoman, carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, convinced if you don’t do the things you do, they won’t ever get done. I have a question for you.

Of all these important things you do (that only you can do), how many of these things, if left undone (even just for a day or two) would cause the world to stop turning?

What if you said no because you didn’t want to do something instead of yes because you’re afraid of disappointing someone?

What if you stopped long enough to breathe? I know you’ve got responsibilities and people depending on you. I know you have goals and dreams, and no one’s going to hand them to you on a silver platter–you’ve got to put in the work.

But just for today, give yourself permission to step back and simply enjoy being in the moment. To be still and know that He is God, and we are not. He’ll keep the world spinning until you get back. Promise.

Vienna (by Billy Joel)
Slow down you crazy child
You’re so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you’re so smart tell me why
Are you still so afraid?
Where’s the fire, what’s the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize…Vienna waits for you

Slow down you’re doing fine
You can’t be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it’s so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)
Too bad but it’s the life you lead
You’re so ahead of yourself
That you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you’re wrong
You know you can’t always see when you’re right(you’re right)

You got your passion you got your pride
But don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
When will you realize
Vienna waits for you

Slow down you crazy child
Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
It’s alright you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize…
Vienna waits for you.

And you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through

Why don’t you realize…Vienna waits for you
When will you realize…Vienna waits for you

“Pick the day. Enjoy it – to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come… The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present, and I don’t want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.”
~ Audrey Hepburn

The need for rest is so important. We live in such busy, busy times and it leaves us feeling frazzled and unconnected.

Thanks for the reminder to rest. It’s a good one.

I’ve never been afraid to say no (you’re shocked, I can tell) and I’m not above saying no so that I can get time for myself. Otherwise I’d go nuts, which would not be good for my family – and I’m sure they are very appreciative of my no-ness ability.

Ah, Billy, you know the Not So Fast girl loves reading this call to consider priorities, pace and people! I am going to link this up at NotSoFastBook.com. I’m very glad I made slow-down choices this morning: I prepared a stack of crepes for breakfast this morning, sat around the table with my family, sipped tea, and talked about what’s going on in the world…and our lives.

Ah, I see this is yours, not Billy’s–a little confusion via Twitter.

All of the above still stands: I love what *you* wrote, Katdish! Just replace your name after “Ah.”! :)

I am in my favorite “peaceful place” this weekend (resting in a cabin in Tennessee) – with a laundry list of things that awaiting me when I step back into that thing called “realworld.” Thanks for this, as it reminds me to bask in this peaceful present that is a gift from my sweet Lord. That other stuff can wait, and what’s not that important can simply fall away…

Some people are just too busy. Myself included. That’s why I’ve decided I’m not writing on my blog unless I feel like it.

Were you talking to bloggers? Huh? Huh? Sometimes my friends that post twice a day just make me tired.

Indeed we will take your advice here today… Husband took the day off (SHOCKING!), pancakes and blackberry sauce for breakfast (whenever they drag out of bed), the son will do errands with daddy (gathering horse stall building materials), and I will NOT clean the toilets or empty the trash cans. Then we are off to the rodeo for some real country fun tonight. Wanna come?

    Blessings.

We all need rest, but with a society consumed b guilt, we rarely get the rest we need. Right now, I’m looking at my calendar, the carpet in need of a vacuuming, and thinking about how much I need to get done. Something, I need to remember/remind myself or better put it on the calendar.

This line is so good … “What if you said no because you didn’t want to do something instead of yes because you’re afraid of disappointing someone?”

Saying yes was my default setting for years (just wanted to make everyone happy!) But I began living more intentional a few years ago … love the freedom it brings! But if I’m not careful, it’s amazing how easy it is to slip back into that default mode.

Balance is the key to accomplishing your goals and STILL finding time to catch that episode of Without A Trace with your favorite snack, dressed in your pjs, and not caring if the dishes have to wait one more hour before they get done. Without moments like that you’d burn out.

In fact, come to think of it…that’s what I’m going to do later today….

It’s so funny, I’ve been on vacation with my family all week and have been beating myself up that I haven’t written one thing. I haven’t worked on any of my design projects, nothing has been accomplished at all. I’ve even been plotting on using my last twenty hours of vacation time sometime next month just to focus on writing….

We need people to tell us to slow down. It’s ridiculous, but necessary. Thanks, friend!
