Going Deep (Repost)
How to Draw a Picture (Part 10)
(Excerpt from Duma Key by Stephen King)“Be prepared to see it all. If you want to create–God help you if you do, God help you if you can–don’t you dare commit the immorality of stopping on the surface. Go deep and take your fair salvage.”
How deep are you willing to go?
Do you find yourself swimming in the shallow end of life? Safer there, no? Less of a risk. It’s where most of us seem to congregate isn’t it? We choose not to go deep, where the water is murky. Too many unknowns lurking…
“How are you?”
“Fine, thanks.” (My life is a mess.)
“Work going well?”
“Can’t complain.” (There’s rumors of layoffs and I fear I’m first on the chopping block.)
“What happened at school today?”
“Nothing much…” (I just don’t fit in. I don’t have any friends.)
“Is something wrong?”
“Just tired I guess…” (Yes. Everything’s wrong. I’m hanging on as best I can, but I need you to throw me a lifeline.)
Too many of us live life on the surface and are afraid to dunk our heads and drink deeply, because those waters are murky. But those waters are really the only thing worth tasting in this life.
That’s where we will find Living water.

Revelation 7:17

My issue is with whom. That is always my issue,I am too picky on whom to go deep with.
Thanks for the challenge this morning!
amen

You describe me pretty well here.

You speak the truth, friend. It’s such a risk to put ourselves out there, whether in person or in our writing. It took me over 1/3 of my life (at least I pray that was only the first third…) to get brave enough to go beyond shallow waters. Here’s to the risk!

And ain’t it grand that God’s life-line and buoy are always within reach. We just have to open clenched hands…
Blessings.

So true. Sometimes I know something is wrong, but I am in a hurry so I keep it brief. Sometimes I hope dearly that someone will ask one more question so I can let it out. We have to be willing on both sides. Good stuff, Kat.

This is terrific. It’s when we take the chance, that we are more likely to receive.

I always default to, “I’m just tired.”
I guess sometimes though, I don’t want to go deep with particular people. I hate the idea of living in the shallow end, there are so many reasons not to… like if someone pees in the water, there’s less space and water for it to dissipate out and you might actually hit a warm spot (panic). I’m kidding when I should be serious. I think we all need to try to go deeper. Seriously, how much significance is there to being shallow with everyone? do we want to waste our time acting like everything is good? or not genuinely sharing when it is good?
Wonderful post.
-ps have you read his new one yet? with the bubble over the town? for some reason, I’m seriously interested in it…..

Actually, Jake I’m reading it right now. So far, so good. King has some real issues with organized religion, and that comes thru in this book. But honestly, not all of them are unfounded. Some really bad bad guys in this one. I’ll let you know my final review once I’ve finished it.
This is excellent. I love that King quote. Excellent post!
